The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has already recorded a 1.1°C rise in the world’s average surface temperature between 1900 and 2020. If current greenhouse gas emissions continue at present levels, climate models project a further rise of up to 4°C by the end of this century, a level of change the IPCC describes as unprecedented in over 2,000 years of climate records. The consequences extend beyond warmer summers with shifting weather patterns, disrupted food production and reduced habitability for both people and ecosystems.
One of the clearest illustrations is water. Every additional degree of warming is expected to increase global average precipitation by around 7%, driven by faster evaporation and a “sped-up” water cycle. At 2°C of warming, heavy rain events are projected to become 1.7 times more likely and 14% more intense meaning more flooding, more infrastructure strain and more disruption to the communities and industries that depend on stable water systems.
These are clearly defined threats for the not-too-distant future and why Genesis Biosciences’ approach to sustainability is not a marketing message, but a design principle to deliver meaningful action.
Working with Nature

Genesis Biosciences’ eco-benign philosophy starts from a simple premise: the most effective, safe and sustainable technologies already exist in nature and our role is to harness and refine them. That thinking runs through both of our technology pillars: microbial biotechnology built on fermented Bacillus strains that keep working after application and natural antimicrobial technology derived from plant-based ingredients, such as essential oils.
Eco-benign® products are formulated to be biodegradable with a low toxicity profile, while matching or exceeding the performance of conventional alternatives, thanks to multi-targeted, multi-mechanism modes of action that also reduce the risk of resistance building up over time.
Future-Proofing in Practice
Future-proofing against a warmer, wetter and more volatile climate means reducing the burden our products place on ecosystems at every stage and not just at the point of use. That’s reflected across how Genesis Biosciences designs and delivers its ranges:
- Raw materials and formulation. Ingredients are selected for biodegradability and a low toxicity profile, and are primarily derived from sustainable sources, supporting resilience in the ecosystems most exposed to a changing climate, from soil and freshwater systems to coastal waters.
- Packaging. Packaging is designed to have a harmless effect on the environment when handled, discarded, and recycled, and is fully recycled and recyclable.
- Logistics. Products are supplied as concentrates that can be diluted locally, with ongoing research into higher concentrate levels to reduce the carbon footprint of transportation.
- Sector-specific compliance. In marine environments, where ecosystem protection and MARPOL compliance are non-negotiable, Biotal® Marine solutions are built for operational reliability alongside environmental performance.
Why action against climate change Matters

Climate change will not affect everyone in the same way. Some areas are projected to experience greater rainfall and flooding, while others face increasing drought. Land areas and high-latitude regions are also expected to warm more rapidly than the global average.
For the people living through those changes, the consequences will be environmental, economic and social. Water availability, food production, infrastructure, biodiversity and the health of ecosystems are all connected to the stability of the climate.
That makes sustainability about more than what happens today.
The choices made by industries now will influence the environmental conditions that future generations inherit. The products we formulate, the raw materials we use, the waste we generate and the pressure we place on natural resources all contribute to that legacy.
Sustainable Innovation with Future Generations in Mind
Future-proofing the world we live in is about recognising that the decisions made today shape the world that future generations have to live with. For Genesis Biosciences, eco-benign® is one way of putting that responsibility into practice.
By harnessing biological processes, developing application-specific microbial technologies and exploring naturally derived approaches, we aim to create products that deliver the performance industries need while being designed with environmental impact in mind.
There is no single technology that can solve climate change, and no company can future-proof the planet alone. But meaningful change is built from many individual decisions such as how products are formulated, which ingredients are selected, how they are manufactured, transported and used, and what happens to them once their job is done.
Our responsibility is to keep making those decisions with the future in mind, to help leave a safer, healthier and more resilient world for the people who come after us.
