We’re pleased to share two recently published, excellent scientific reviews by Decker et al. and D’Accolti et al. that both provide an overview of groundbreaking new studies.

Conducted by leading European research teams, the research showcases the potential of probiotic cleaning products as a sustainable, effective alternative to traditional chemical disinfectants in healthcare settings.

Probiotic cleaners for hospitals - research studies

The research consortium brings together leading experts from the Charité Universitätsmedizin in Berlin, the National Reference Center for the Surveillance of Nosocomial Infections in Berlin, the University Medical Center Groningen in The Netherlands, the University of Ferrara in Italy and the NHS Lanarkshire & Edinburgh Napier University in the UK.

Multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRO) and healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are a growing challenge in hospitals, with environmental contamination playing a significant role in transmission. These studies set out to demonstrate that probiotic cleaning products offer a novel, biodegradable method for controlling microbial bioburden and preventing pathogen transmission, without the environmental and safety concerns associated with chemical disinfectants.

Key findings from the studies

Effective alternative to chemicals

Probiotic cleaning products have shown to be sustainable and effective alternatives to traditional disinfectants in healthcare settings.

Reduction in drug-resistant organisms

These products can help control multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) and healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), both of which are major issues in hospitals.

Environmental benefits to using probiotic cleaners

Probiotic cleaning is biodegradable and avoids the environmental and safety risks associated with chemical disinfectants.

Comparable efficacy

Clinical trials demonstrated that probiotic cleaning is as effective as chemical disinfectants in reducing pathogens and MDROs.

Added benefits

Besides infection control, probiotic cleaning lowers antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs), reduces costs, and decreases antimicrobial consumption.

Safety and compliance

Probiotic formulations are bio-based and biodegradable, requiring no protective measures, thus aligning with health and safety standards.

Paradigm shift

This review underscores a shift towards biological methods in infection control, marking a significant change from traditional chemical approaches in healthcare institutions.

Choose probiotic cleaning products

Using Evogen microbial products in hospitals offers a safer, environmentally-responsible alternative to chemical disinfectants. Our probiotic formulations use ‘good’ microbes to control harmful bacteria, reducing infections and drug-resistant organisms without the environmental harm of chemicals. Their biodegradable nature aligns well with healthcare’s push for greener, safer cleaning.

Evogen also helps to reduce antimicrobial resistance, a big issue with frequent chemical use. By naturally managing bacteria, these products lower the need for antimicrobials, cutting costs and supporting workplace safety. For hospitals and healthcare settings aiming to protect both patients and the environment, Evogen is the sensible, sustainable product choice.
