Navigating Regulation Changes for Microbial-Based Cleaning Products (MBCPs)
2025 saw significant developments in the regulatory landscape for microbial-based cleaning products across Europe. As these sustainable solutions gain traction, so does the need for clear oversight and compliance frameworks. At Genesis Biosciences, we’ve been at the forefront of this conversation, sharing expert guidance on emerging EU regulations that seek to integrate MBCPs into formal regulatory structures, emphasise strain identification and safety and support innovation while safeguarding users and the environment.
These regulatory shifts underline the growing acceptance of beneficial microbes as viable, science-backed alternatives to traditional chemical cleaners.
Strengthening Collaboration with Unilever
One of the standout highlights of 2025 was the ongoing collaboration with household care leader Unilever. Building on our long-standing partnership, Unilever launched Cif Infinite Clean All-in-One Cleaner Spray, formulated with our probiotic technology to provide long-lasting surface hygiene.
This launch represents a major leap forward for probiotic cleaning in mainstream consumer products.
Emma’s Visit to 10 Downing Street
In May, our General Manager for Europe, Dr Emma Saunders, was honoured to be invited to 10 Downing Street to discuss business leadership, innovation and partnerships. Her participation reflected our commitment to UK science, biotechnology and sustainable industry growth, bringing the voice of microbial innovation to conversations at the heart of British business and policy.
Global Engagement: SEPAWA & ChemUK Exhibitions
2025 was a busy year for events! Our team showcased cutting-edge science and sustainable solutions at two major industry exhibitions:
- SEPAWA® Congress, one of Europe’s premier gatherings for detergents, cosmetics and fragrance sectors, where we connected with peers and shared insights into microbial technologies.
- CHEMUK, the UK’s leading chemical industry expo, where our scientists and commercial teams engaged with partners and customers on the latest trends in eco-benign® cleaning solutions and biotechnology.
