2024 has been a dynamic and rewarding year for us here at Genesis Biosciences, filled with meaningful research, innovative product launches, and team milestones.
Alongside their hard work in R&D and product formulation, our teams were busy as ever with industry trade shows, promotions, awards and celebrations. We launched the new generation of our Evogen concentrates, revealed our new website and won ‘Green Business of the Year’ – it’s been busy!
We’re looking forward to 2025 and we’ll be back with an end-of-year message from our CEO and General Manager but for now, here’s what our global teams have been up to since January – what a productive year it’s been.
Tackling antimicrobial resistance & proving probiotic efficacy in a series of studies
We began 2024 with the publication of a scientific paper stemming from our collaboration with the University of Huddersfield. The findings presented came from a study focusing on the effectiveness of Bacillus-based probiotic cleaners in mitigating dry biofilms that can be present on hospital surfaces, in a bid to contribute to a safer healthcare environment and reduce antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Following the same theme, we joined COMBAT AMR, the leading consortium fighting antimicrobial resistance. Led by Professor Jean-Yves Maillard of Cardiff University, the consortium brings together 7 European educational institutions on the research project to advance our combined understanding and explore new methods of intervention and uses a new multi-species biofilm model based on research at Cardiff University by Dr Katarzyna (Kate) Ledwoch, Genesis Biosciences’ very own Laboratory Manager.
We rounded off the year sharing two further published, excellent scientific reviews by Decker et al. and D’Accolti et al. that both provide an overview of groundbreaking new studies. While the studies are not our own, both effectively proved the potential of probiotic cleaning products as a sustainable, effective alternative to traditional chemical disinfectants in healthcare settings.
Launching our next generation of bio-based, plant-derived concentrates
We were thrilled to introduce the next iteration of our bio-based Evogen concentrates range in early 2024.
By using co-formulants and fully biodegradable raw materials including bio-based alcohol ethoxylates and application-specific Bacillus consortia, our formulations are compliant with current eco accreditations such as ECOCERT, EU Ecolabel and recognised international standards for quality.
Our greenest formula yet means we can continue to encourage consumers that there are safer product options with low toxicity that deliver a superior cleaning performance.

We were very pleased to celebrate Dr. Katarzyna Ledwoch’s new promotion as Laboratory Manager, in a year filled with new advances and important research and development (R&D) projects to further characterise our Bacillus strains and develop innovative microbial and antimicrobial technologies.
Kate also shone at the Chem UK Expo in Birmingham this year when she delivered an inspiring talk on using our Bacillus technology for eco-benign® alternatives to harsh chemicals for home care applications.
Meanwhile, in March, we marked another International Women’s Day with our fantastic team. This year’s theme was ‘Inspire inclusion’, and it resonates deeply with our core values. We understand the importance of creating an inclusive environment where every member, regardless of gender, is valued, respected, and given equal opportunity to contribute and excel.

It was fantastic to be nominated for both The AD and Biogas Industry Awards and for 2 categories at this year’s Welsh Business Awards.
But, of course, it was even better to win! We were delighted to receive ‘Green Business of the Year’ at the Welsh Business Awards 2024 – it’s an honour to be recognised for our continual hard work striving for a greener, better future.
Launching a new website to reflect our ambitions
We launched our new, redesigned website this year, with an enhanced user experience, providing easier access to our comprehensive range of products and services.
And as it’s hosted on a 100% carbon-neutral server, our online presence aligns with our goal of reducing environmental impact.
…And an updated Resources hub for improved access to digital content
Our second release was a Resources hub, bringing together brochures, infographics, FAQs, videos and guides that our team has created over multiple years.
It’s imperative our customers can access information quickly and easily – so our new growing repository of digital info does just that.
Attending SEPAWA and Interclean 2024 to talk about sustainable, probiotic alternatives
Our team headed to two of the year’s biggest industry trade shows, Sepawa and Interclean, to talk with attendees about sustainable products and probiotics.
We showcased Evogen, specifically our new range of formulated bio-based microbial concentrates, Evozyme, our multi-purpose liquid and powder microbial additives and Biosan, our natural antimicrobial technologies.
